Jose`s Cantina in Saint Ignace

The food was not good. Thry are only open for a few hours. The wait to be seated was not satisfactory. The tamale was not good. The carnitas plate was dry and didnt taste good. The floutas were good. But the rice and beans was nasty. No good!

Fresh, delicious Mexican food, served within 10 minutes. The wait for a table went relatively fast although demand was high. Friendly, quick servers. A highlight of our trip (parents and 2 kids 12, 15) up north so far! Tables/booths spaced well apart inside so we felt comfortable despite COVID. Best margarita I’ve had in a restaurant, top-end reposada on ice.

This place was a hoot!The staff said there would be a 45 minute wait, but we waited for over an hour.When we were seated, they informed us they were out of:-Shrimp-Pork-Whitefish-Grilled Chicken (but they had shredded?)-Portobello Mushroom-FajitasGreat margs and experience.One star.

The staff was rude as soon as I walked in the door. Our waitress wasn’t not the exception, extremely short and refused to provide us with straws. Regarding the food it’s extremely bland , no real salsas provided even when ordering tacos. We were not able to sit outside for some odd reason, The personnel kept making excuses as to why we couldn’t sit there. Lastly, they didn’t have fish for their famous fish tacos, it was a 3pm meal on a slow day.

The food here was delicious! Not the most authentic Mexican I've ever had but we really did enjoy everything that we ordered. I had to try the fish tacos since they were voted number one in the state by MLive. They were very good, really enjoyed the crispy shell. We also ordered the carne asada tacos which were delicious! They were very generous with the filling and the beef had a nice grill flavor. the nachos were delicious, those pickled jalapenos or spicy so if you are faint of heart, you may want to pass on those. The highlight of the dinner was definitely the fried ice cream with the crispy coconut exterior. Definitely my favorite thing I had there. That dish alone got them the five stars. Overall a great stop on our trip in the UP, would go back. The service was great! We got there at a good time so we didn't have to wait too long.

This is my birthday weekend and I have been to st ignance several times and have never stopped here. Today my boyfriend and I stopped we had the best experience ever!!!!!!!! The waitress was great and the head chef came out and talk with us!!!!! You can tell he takes pride in his food and the presentation!!!! The fish tacos was amazing!!!!!!! For them to be working short staff they did an amazing job and I will definitely be spreading the word about this place. Thank you for everything you guys are doing in this pandamic!!!!

Clean, friendly great service. Food was hot and served fast. You can sit inside or outside. They have merch for sale as well. Plenty of parking space. Also handicap accessible

Not the best but not the worst either. Their servings are big- but not too much to ride home about. But every town should have a wide diverse food culture and this place has it- good job! In response to owner's comment...I was there in August 2019 and not 21 weeks as you confusingly stated. For that.. Minus one star!

The staff is really rude. My cup had a hole and was leaking, my waitress wouldn’t get me a new cup and handed me napkins... the food tasted rotten too. Would not recommend

Hostesses were not super friendly, waitress was awesome though! Food presentation was on point! The food was just as good as it looked! We loved sitting on the deck, enjoying good food and the peaceful sound of the Lake. Will definitely stop here again when we are back in the area!

Great tacos and great margaritas. We were able to sit on the patio with seating spaced for social distancing. The entire staff were wearing masks. Great experience!

Found this gem of a place in St. Ignace. The food was awesome. Quaint location and decor! Excellent views!

While on vacation we heard that the food was the best around. We waited for about 40 Minutes on a Saturday at 4pm. Signs that stated that masks are to be worn to have 2 people sitting in there and nothing was said to them. After being seated we had several servers pass by our table, no acknowledgement we were even there. When our server came over she was not friendly and short. The margaritas were decent but small in size. The food was just ok, the chicken burrito had no seasoning whatsoever. Will not be returning here. Sadly it could be a decent place but no one seems to be in charge.

Me and the wife on vacation and looking forward to eating here, we waited in the lobby for 30 mins and no one acknowledged either of us. We were.both bummed because of wanting to eat here but couldnt get a seat. It was 3:30pm on a Saturday, very disorganized and losing customers and money in my mind. Maybe better luck next time.

We enjoyed everything. My husband and daughter each had the nachos, my son had beef tacos and I had the fish tacos. The salsa was homemade and very flavorful!! Our waitress was very friendly! We will be back!! ❤

This was probably the best Mexican food we have had. The food and service was great. We ate there on 8/7/20 I highly recommend it.

Food was ok. Server would not bring my wife a straw (they use paper straws). Kids meal comes with straws. Not a fan of the cheap plastic (scratched) cups. They gross my wife out. Asked for a straw. Server said owner doesn’t allow them only for kids and specialty drinks. Offered to pay for straw. Server said no. Asked for a manager. Another person came by and said no the owner won’t allow them for the water cup and she would get in trouble. Due to how ridiculous it was for my wife to share a straw with one of my two children you earn 1 star because 0 isn’t an option.

Crispy Tacos are very good! Whitefish tacos are excellent. The mango salsa if you get the hot it is hot! You have been warned. The beans are smooth and tasty. Rice was so so. Service was very slow, however the waitress was friendly. Dined mid-week around 2:30.

Closed at 9pm on a Sat?? We and others were turned away at 8:20pm. Guess its more important for them to close then make extra money. First place I've ever been turned away way before close time. Inexperienced help in front!!

Refused service because of the "guest list" was full. Then other parties walked in without any problems. We were even wearing masks.I will never be visiting this restaurant. Have fun being profiled and rejected.

Horrible service! Everyone around us got rice and beans with there meals, but apparently we didn't. They also don't have any straws except for alcoholic drinks. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Asked for no peppers on my quesadilla and that didn't happen either. After 15 minutes or so of no-one checking I just ate it bc I wanted to get out of there and was hungry. I am paying for that mistake now.

The fish tacos were pretty good I dont usually eat them but my wife thinks they are great and I had to try them .we got there about 4 minutes after they opened and waited about 10 minutes to be seated .have limited out side seating on the water right now . Still very nice restaurant

I went there because they were open until 10pm. The food was very gourmet Mexican fare. I always like to try vegetarian dishes when I eat out. The Sweet Potato Black Bean wet Burrito showcased the freshness of the ingredients. Nice family and date place. Felt very comfortable with the staff. The chips weren't greasy and had a very fresh taste. The Salsa was wonderful. I heard from other customers the fish taco was as good as any they had had.

The food was delicious. The older waitress we had was pretty rude though. I would go again, just request a different waitress.

I was overcharged on a chicken fajita, no apology just 'I can't do anything about it, it's in the computer like that'. Costumer service diffently was very poor. Food was good except the rice was cold, and no straws.

This restaurant was amazing. The waitress we had on July 1st around 630pm was amazing. We were able to sit out on the deck it was very beautiful out there. The food was delicious and super fast. Definitely recommend this restaurant prices were good. The pina colada I had was amazing too. My husband who doesn't drink even tried it and said if was good.

first and last visit to this place on Aug.2,2020. I ordered a soft drink and when the waitress brought it I asked for a straw and she informed me that they didn't have them, so I asked for a drink (margarita) straw and she said they couldn't do that either. One would think during a pandemic that a straw would be safer than drinking from a plastic glass. Because we had already ordered our food, we stayed but will not return.

The waitresses were rude. The service was EXTREMELY slow. We had to ask for the same thing 10 times and still never received it. Over priced and the food was gross. Not impressed and won’t go back. They are only open for 4 hours and a person came in before closing and they wouldnt let them in because they said they were closed. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Don’t waste your money.

This place is terrible. Hostess weren’t friendly. Server finally comes to our table she wasn’t friendly either never checked on us or gave us refills. Wouldn’t give us straws for some reason. We ordered 3 different meals 2 of them were disgusting tried to send them back when they were barley touched they said we couldn’t. Also couldn’t get a different meal had to pay bill in full after terrible food and service. Wish I could this place a 0.
